Actos Cancer Lawsuits
The diabetes drug Actos has been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer. Patients who used Actos and have been diagnosed with bladder cancer may be eligible to file a lawsuit to seek compensation for their injuries.
In June 2011, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning that patients who took Actos for more than one year or who used the highest doses of the drug may face an increased risk of developing bladder cancer. Patients who use Actos in long term or high doses may be up to 40% more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer than users of other diabetes medications, according to the FDA’s Actos warning.
The first Actos cancer lawsuit was filed in August 2011 on behalf of a patient who was diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking the drug. More than 50 additional lawsuits and at least one Actos class action have been filed against the manufacturer of the drug since then. Attorneys involved with the litigation are predicting that the total number of Actos lawsuits could climb into the thousands before the litigation against the company ends.
